2014 Green Resolutions

Posted on December 24, 2013 by Oozle Media

The New Year is fast approaching, and with it some changes should be made. Make switches in your life to not only save money, but have a positive effect on the environment. You will find that these resolutions are easier than you may think, and once you switch, it will be hard to remember why you didn’t incorporate these green ideas in your life before.

Water

Drinking enough water during the day is important; however the means of doing this should be carefully examined. Rather than consuming water from water bottles, invest in a water filter for your home. It is estimated that up to forty percent of polyethylene terephthalate plastic that is discarded comes from water bottles. Just by getting rid of the water bottle consumption in your home, you will save yourself a significant amount of money. Using a filter on your tap will produce water that is just as clean, but at a reduced price and environmental impact.

The Electricity

The electricity in your home takes up a fair amount of energy, but there are ways to go greener during the New Year without inconveniencing yourself. Start out by investing in greener appliances that have an Energy Star Rating when your old appliances go out. This is especially important with the fridge, dryer, and HVAC system. Take care of these new appliances and be sure to keep them in the best condition possible. When replacing light bulbs, switch to LED lighting. They will have a reduced impact on our electric bill, bringing with them many benefits.

Resolve to get rid of any bad habits over the coming year. Rather than leaving lights on all day and all night, turn them off when not in use. Although it is smart to have a security light on outside during the night, you can invest in one that runs on a timer. This will help you to save money, and ensure your light bulb lasts even longer than ever before.

There are many small changes that you can make to improve the amount of money you spend on electricity, appliances, food, water, and other things over the coming year. Even just making a few changes will have an impact over the course of a full year. Next December, you can take a look back at the things you have accomplished, and how you have gotten to the point you are at today.
